cross department Networking tips

I’m a graduate student and I went to a networking event at a top tier company with 5 other classmates. they are interested in Asset and Wealth Management while I’m more inclined towards Risk Management and Corporate Finance/ Banking. we were able to schedule a networking meeting with the VP of Asset Management dpt. I really don’t want to screw this up and need advice on
1. how to not get overshadowed by the students interested in AM
2. Best way to approach the VP and get more information in Risk management (the department I’m interested in)
