  2. StrictlyVC - Focuses on venture capital and tech startups.
  3. Stratechery - Highly recommended for valuable insights into the tech industry.
  4. The Information - Useful but can be pricey for students.
  5. A16Z Weekly & Ben Evans’ blog - Great for tech trends and insights.
  6. Mattermark Daily - Provides data-driven insights.
  7. Finimize - Simplifies financial news.
  8. AVC - Covers venture capital and startups.

Podcasts:

While specific podcasts are not mentioned in the context, you might find tech-focused podcasts like "a16z Podcast," "The Information's 411," and "Stratechery Podcast" to be valuable.

Books:

The context does not specify books, but some popular tech industry books include: - "The Lean Startup" by Eric Ries - "Zero to One" by Peter Thiel - "The Innovator's Dilemma" by Clayton Christensen

Tips:

  • Skim and Selectively Read: You don't need to read everything every day. Skim through the newsletters and focus on the most relevant articles.
  • Top 3 Recommendations: If you're short on time, prioritize Stratechery, StrictlyVC, and A16Z Weekly.

These resources should help you build a solid foundation in the tech industry before starting your internship.

Sources: What websites, newsletters, literature, etc do you read on a daily/weekly basis?, Keeping Up with the Zuckerbergs (Learning About/Staying Up-to-Date on the Tech Industry), Keeping Up with the Zuckerbergs (Learning About/Staying Up-to-Date on the Tech Industry), What podcasts do you listen to keep up to date with the markets?, Are there any articles, podcast episodes, interviews, etc. you'd recommend people interested in RE look at?

Hey so I recently completed my SA in a tech group (returning full-time) so happy to share some insight. To be honest I think the bot response is acc very good - sources like statechery are great, would also add TLDR newsletter.

Beyond the newsletter I think what’s especially helpful is understanding what public co’s are doing, who big players are in sectors / verticals, and how / why both strategies and sponsors are transacting. For the first bit, I would follow some PM’s that focus on tech tbh, or even ppl on Twitter who invest in growthy tech names to build some familiarity is great. Knowing what the big names are in sectors, what they’re doing, how and what they’re valued at, etc is all super helpful. Beyond that I think it’s the critical thinking and being able to see some of these news items in action. For example, if you see a trxn in the market, try to understand the thesis and why or why not this deal makes sense for all parties involved. Forcing urself to think through and ask those questions is the best way to rly understand these trends and build a genuine interest.

You don’t really need to go into the weeds for the job, assuming the group is focused on software, I’d recommend reading the Mostly Metrics newsletter and familiarizing yourself with SaaS metrics and retention models. If you have a personal interest in tech and want to learn more, Stratechery and Technically newsletters will deepen your understanding of the sector. Also, the Acquired podcast is great regardless of what industry you cover but not necessary for the job.
