Early Career Next Steps Inquiry, FLDP and beyond

Hi all,

I work in corporate finance in NYC. I went through a 2-year FLDP and have been in my roll-off position for a year next week (3 years work experience). I work for a very well known global manufacturing company in the Fortune 100 (not GE).

I'm not quite sure what to do next in my career but feel that one year in my current corp ops role is enough. For the past several months, I've wanted to leave the company. However, I've met with my manager recently and have been told that the plan is to promote me to senior analyst by the end of the year.

About a month ago I interviewed for a consulting position but didn't get it. This would have just been a two-year step in my mind to get to the next role.

Over the past several weeks I've been contacted by some pretty awesome and well-known companies on the West coast out of the blue. I've also gotten a few bites on some online applications which is very surprising to me as it's been drilled into my head that applying through web portals will amount to nothing (granted, small margin of success here).

I'm writing here because I'm afraid I may not be valuing my work experience well but also am not sure how picky I should be in searching for new roles at my age.

Based on these recent interactions with recruiters, I'm assuming I have a strong profile, but I really don't want to end up in the role I'm already in at my current company. I'm not loving my role in corp fin (largely FP&A and month end close :p) and want to move to something finance-oriented but with more meaningful decision making/ creativity.

For example, I have a phone interview with a tech service company this week that I'm not 1000% thrilled about. It would be a dream to work for this company in a strategy/marketing/development type role, but the open position is for that of 'Finance Manager'. If I got this, it would be a huge promotion, but I feel that I would be in the same spot that I'm in now and would grow to hate it. The company recently went public, but is very small in terms of revenues from where I'm at now and for some reason this irks me if I'm not 1000% in love with the role.

I'm also of the mindset that any "bite" in the way of a recruiter warrants me going along with their interview processes. Am I too young to be picky about roles? I almost want to cancel our interview because my heart isn't 100% on board with this role.

Additionally, I'm fearful to stay at my company much longer. I don't want to pigeon hole myself.

Any advice?
