help with the right corp dev M&A title to ask for

I am looking for opinions of what title would be most recognized and appropriate for my current position in corp dev (M&A). I am in a position where I feel my official title doesn't quite match my job duties. The point being, I want to set myself up should I ever leave this company, I want the most universal recognition on title for my actual duties and experience.

For background, I was associate II in M&A investment banking promoted up from undergrad analyst (no MBA) and left for corp dev of which I now have about 1.5 years experience. Combined experience is about 7 years. Currently work for a middle market portfolio company of very large PE fund. I report to the VP of corp dev and we are now hiring an analyst as a direct report to me (three Man Group).

I helped define the new M&A effort here in terms of process, goals, etc. This role is pretty autonomous and duties are typical for managing buyside transactions from pre-loi to close. This means weighing in on value and deal structure, running financial/operating deal model of record, managing diligence teams (e.g. outside accounting, lawyers, internal diligence functional teams). I source deals as well (no quota or anything though) at trade shows or through professional networks. I also am responsible for reporting basic KPIs on closed deals and helping generally with M&A matters as they relate to our debt RiFi.

This is my second corp dev job and reason I didn't focus on title initially was I knew this would be a great position, I had a short window to make a geographic change, and spent my efforts negotiating salary and moving expenses.

Any opinions on what makes sense? Best I could think would be Senior Manager of Corporate Development.

Off topic, but mind me asking what you did instead of Corp Dev junkbondswap?

What were the reasons you didn't go for it in the end?

Feel free to pm if you prefer.
