Wanted to get some thoughts on how much you all value the prestige/branding. For context, a recruiter for a F500 based out of the city where I grew up in recently reached out with a role that seems pretty interesting. The pros are that it's home and close to my family, the pay is actually pretty good, and the role is high visibility/has interesting work. The main thing holding me back is that the company seems to be a pretty big step down in terms of branding. I would be moving from a FANG tech company to a Leisure/Travel/Transportation company and I'm not sure if it's a good move at this point of my career.
Hoping to hear from more experienced (Manager+) members here on how they have managed similar situations in their career.
If possible, you should find 1 industry (not necessarily 1 company) that you enjoy and stick to it -- that's how I've seen people move up rank quickly. It's easy to jump around industries at the Analyst/Sr Analyst level because you're being hired to do Excel, Powerpoint, and entry level type work. But once you start interviewing at the Sr Manager & Director level, it's much more beneficial to have several years of experience in that specific industry. So, if you dislike Tech and like Leisure/Travel and see yourself in it for the long term, then go for it. It's a F500 so it's perfectly fine on paper. If you want to stay in Tech long term, then I'd recommend holding out and looking for a Tech job in your home town - coming from FANG, it shouldn't be too difficult to land interviews. GL
