Low Business Development Pay?
Recently, I've been looking at Business Development roles (from BD Associate to Manager) and have noticed that the pay for these roles (~$40k-$70k) is pretty low, considering that most applications have been asking for 2-4 years experience. Given that I have no prior direct sales experience (I'm coming from a more technical role at a BB), I feel like I'd be automatically steered towards the lower end of the salary range. It seems like it would be a tough sell for anyone who's been working 3 years in another field and is already making closer to six figures.
For those of you in this field, were there any other factors that made you more comfortable in accepting a position like this (bonus, equity, benefits, etc.)? For anyone that switched from an IB or consulting background, did you notice any obvious change in your lifestyle (either good or bad) that you didn't fully expect?
