Path to Corp Dev in Tech?
I understand that the most common path to corp dev at a FAANG or other large-cap tech company is an analyst stint at a top IB. However, are there alternative paths to top corp dev positions without a banking stint? Curious to hear any opinions or advice on the topic.
A number of these roles recruit out of MBA. Additionally, internal transfer isn’t super common, but have definitely seen people make moves from strategic finance roles to the corp dev team. IB (in TMT especially) or MBB are probably the fastest routes there, but corp dev isn’t like PE in the sense that you “miss the boat” if you don’t get an IB role shortly after undergrad.
