Strategic Finance Bonuses
I’ve seen job postings for some of these strategic finance roles for tech companies and startups that seem to offer bases of $150K-$200K for around 5 years of experience. What are the bonuses like for these types of roles? Do they fall somewhere in the 10-15% range like Corp Fin or higher?
What am I missing here because it sounds like a good opportunity for someone looking to get $200K-$250K all-in for less demanding hours than many other finance roles?
Based on the most helpful WSO content, here's what you need to know about bonuses for strategic finance roles in tech companies and startups:

This makes strategic finance roles in tech companies and startups an attractive opportunity for those seeking a high total compensation with relatively less demanding hours compared to traditional finance roles.

I'm in PE looking to leave my firm and go into strategic finance. Based on conversations with friends on that side, there really aren't bonuses given out. You simply get the base. If anything, bonuses come in the form of RSUs.
It varies from company to company too so not saying cash bonuses are a myth across the board.
Yikes, any company worth a damn has a performance bonus and RSUs above the associate level
Definitely not true at every company.
Thanks that’s actually good to know for my search. None of the three friends in these roles have a bonus as part of their comp plan except one in the form of RSUs so I assumed that was standard.
To add another data point for FP&A/CorpDev at a portfolio company in energy/utilities/mining, my cash bonus is 20% that has been paid at or above target plus a one-time grant of class B units I was awarded ~6 months after I started.
out of curiosity, any gauge on comp range for similar roles for someone with say 5 years exp. across IB/PE all in energy/infra?
You would probably come in as a Corp Dev (or FP&A, Corp Fin...) Manager/Sr Associate at 130-150+ + 20+% bonus (I'm LCOL). For a portco, they probably have a title threshold for equity awards or profit sharing, etc. (VP, maybe director), but mine was more like Managers and above as well as year one employees. My background was public accounting, so my comp has tracked closer to an accounting/controller groups progression vs a corp dev progression, so I may be way off. Hope this helps.
For data-point I had 20% bonus as strat-fin manager at a small-cap tech company.
I've gotten 20% cash bonus in an analyst/manager strat fin role at a large company. More senior levels have the same 20% cash and an additional stock LTI on top of that.
Likely looking at 10-20% so looking at $10k-$20k post-tax. Really not great
See I don’t think 10-20% is that awful, assuming something like a $175K base. This is still around $200K all-in give or take $10K. I know people who would really like that setup and it doesn’t sound too bad if you start to prioritize WLB.
You are right. The job just bored me lol
Currently in “strategic finance” that corp dev also rolls up to (though as you can see by my post history, I might be changing my title soon).
Base 225k
Bonus 60%
No equity though (yet!)
