Strategic Finance Comp Thread

Hi all, recently started a new role for a Bay-area tech company as a Strat Fin Manager with 3.5 YOE out of college (previously IB).

Comp is 160K + 10% bonus, with a 60K equity grant vesting over 4 years with 1 year cliff.

Would be curious to hear other Strat Fin professionals and what their comp figures are like.

One question: My company doesn't offer annual equity refreshers. Is this an uncommon component of comp to be offered? My company is small-cap publicly listed FYI.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, your compensation structure as a Strategic Finance Manager seems competitive, especially for a Bay-area tech company. However, the absence of annual equity refreshers is worth noting. While not every company offers equity refreshers, it is more common in larger or growth-oriented companies, particularly in tech, where equity is a significant part of total compensation. Smaller-cap companies may have more limited equity pools, which could explain the lack of refreshers.

For context, here’s a breakdown of typical Strategic Finance compensation structures:

  1. Base Salary + Bonus: This is standard across industries, with bonuses often tied to individual and company performance.
  2. Equity Grants: Many companies, especially in tech, offer equity grants that vest over time. Annual refreshers are more common in mid-to-large-cap companies or startups with aggressive growth plans.
  3. Other Benefits: Some companies may offer perks like RSUs, stock options, or additional performance-based equity.

If your company doesn’t offer equity refreshers, it might be worth negotiating for other benefits or revisiting this during performance reviews. Additionally, understanding the company’s equity philosophy and growth trajectory can help set expectations.

For comparison, if other Strategic Finance professionals share their comp figures, it could provide more insight into how your package stacks up.
