Strategic Finance Role and Progression

I’m trying to understand the broader strategic finance ecosystem in the UK and where a move into this area can ultimately lead. I’m currently in tech banking and have also done FDD and the ACA. As I think about next steps, strategic finance looks particularly interesting—but I’m unsure how it fits into a longer-term trajectory.

Specifically, is strategic finance a viable path to a CFO role? I’m mainly looking at opportunities within B2B SaaS businesses, but I’m conscious of the risk of becoming pigeonholed into a traditional FP&A-type function. How much scope is there to move beyond that?
