Strategic Finance Salary?

What’s the salary like for strategic finance roles in a high COL city (Nyc, Sf) in a software company?

I’m a little under 1 year in an IB role and looking at strategic finance analysts positions, curious as to what’s a good salary and if equity is expected or not. Would also be curious to see what the salary progression is like

"Strategic finance" is such an umbrella term that it's impossible to give you an answer that is even remotely accurate. Comp is going to highly depend on how much this company values finance and (usually) how much of this role is M&A-related. After two years of IB, you're probably looking at $100K-$150K all-in, but again, that's going to depend on everything I mentioned.

To maximize your earnings, try looking for companies with teams full of ex-bankers and/or companies that are PE-backed. Also, sign up for as many of these recruiter lists that you can (I'm talking Henkel Search, Amity Search, etc., not trash like Selby Jennings or Joe Schmoe's ABC Recruiting)- they sometimes have corp dev, strategic finance, etc. roles.

 

If you are just looking at salary I recommend looking at the H1B database. Look through different companies such as Dropbox, Plaid, and Via. This won't provide info regarding on bonus and other comp. Also, worth noting as mentioned above. Strategic finance can have quite a different meaning depending on the company. Sometimes it is just FP&A while it can also encompass corp dev and other project based work.
