It's almost entirely firm-dependent. This is not like in IB where almost every analyst has at least the same base salary. To make it even more confusing, firms will have various compensation bands, similar to what the military has, and then give appropriate titles for each band. This means that it's entirely possible for a manager in corp dev to be in the same band as a director in tax, which would give the impression that managers and directors earn the same.
