Tech Corp Dev from Another Industry
So I know this is probably not super easy, but how possible is it if I say, have a background in Corp Dev + IB in another industry (let's say consumer, industrials, utilities, business svcs), to transition into CD for a tech / enterprise software kind of company? Understanding that obviously, valuations/companies work quite differently in tech and learning industries takes time...
I'm not too well versed in the software industry but I love the idea of acquiring/building software businesses, looking at M&A from the lens of evaluating new technologies, etc.. and feel like the culture at bay area tech co.'s fits my personality/interests better. Plus they really do seem to have the best pay/benefits and long-term I think being an expert in tech M&A is a more valuable skillset than anything else.
I've switched roles a few times and am afraid of getting asked "why didn't you get into tech before if you're so interested", frankly have no idea how to answer that. Any insights welcome.
