Transferable skills of corporate development professionals

What do you think are the skills that a corporate development ("CD") professional have that are transferable/easily assimilated into other functions or roles (such as buy-side investment funds, FP&A, investment bankers, value-creation, etc)? I was reading another topic on WSO "Corporate development during recessions" and i thought this would be interesting to discuss. While CD is often seen as an exit, people like me with non-IB experience in a CD career seems to have difficulty joining other roles (IB, PE, VC, etc)?
