Transition away from being a "pure" investor
Seeking advice. My professional background is investing (AM and now CD M&A). I love investing but believe I'm leaving potential and fulfillment on the table just being an investor. I'm passionate about people, negotiations, etc. and imagine thriving in a more hands on role in which my edge can be coming from an investor mindset. I have also recognized that pure investors often "don't get it" when it comes to operations, and vice versa. Would like to bridge the gap, and perhaps I can play a bit of both roles...
At this point my resume speaks pure investor. How would you advise moving closer to the ops side? TYIA!
Hey mrdistatty, I think you deserve a response...heck, everyone does. We're listening, sorry about the delay ...my best guess at places on WSO that could help:

You're welcome.
To be frank with you, most will not appreciate your investing skills. Analytical skills will be, but not investment judgment/acumen. But if you're hell bent on making the switch anyway, I think what you need first and foremost is a paradigm shift in your mindset. Ops is all about optimizing, iterating, attention to details, the here and now (barely think about a month from now let alone years). It's not about views and opinions. It's not about underwriting decisions or modeling or triangulating. It's about man-management and process. Process process process.
I think you'd enjoy it far better if you figured out a way to employ operators rather than becoming one yourself.
