Transitioning from Big 4 audit to Rx consulting looking for advices

Currently a senior at one of the Big 4 accounting firm in NYC with 3 years of audit experience. I have a bachelor degree in accounting major and master degree in business analytic.

Wondering is it feasible to get into Top tiers Rx consulting firms (A&M, FTI, AlixPartners)? For folks who work in Rx consulting, do you see anyone coming from audit?

I only see FTI posted senior consultant job opportunity that match with my tenure and A&M is only hiring Senior Associate w. 6➕years of experience which I don’t have enough experience to apply.

In terms of technical foundation, so far I have completed the 13 week cash flow modeling courses and a corp restructuring courses and currently working on 3 statements modeling courses. Any other technical questions I should be prep for?

I don't see much of an issue with your background. I used to be at one of Alix / FTI, and there were a number of people from Big 4 firms, however most of them were from a deal oriented group. There were a couple of people from Audit groups as well, though. The issue with coming from Big 4 is that most everyone at those firms is also trying to exit into restructuring advisory. You also have people from IB / PE / HF and other finance careers trying to break in. Given how little "big" firms there are in the industry, almost all of those applicants will be concentrated into the Big 3, and BRG / Ankura etc. This creates a massive supply against very little demand. Your background is in a not terrible, not standout spot; in the middle more or less.

Technicals wise you're in a decent spot, I'd recommend atleast going over more IB / PE valuation technicals. DCF, LBO, and the likes. It'll help you understand where value lies in a firm, and while you won't be building LBOs on a daily basis the skills they teach are valuable. And then go over the legal language of a bankruptcy as well; you'll need a good understanding of that.
