VP in Investment Banking looking to exit in London

Hi All,

I wondered if I could get some help, advice or be sign posted to all things exiting Investment Banking in the UK.

Currently, I am a first year VP at a top American BB (bulge bracket) in London. Happy to go in to further detail if helpful but I sit in the UK M&A team.

I am looking for any helpful advice on:

  • Leaving investment banking and the best potential exits
  • Details on recruiters and the recruitment processes
  • How to best position myself to leave

I am lucky enough to be part of a team that focuses on execution, so I have bucket loads of deals under my belt, however, it is a generalist role so I do not have a particular sector or industry expertise.

Corporate development/strategy roles were what I was considering initially but there does not seem to be much transparency on salaries, working hours, scope for progression and potential for return into IBD or PE.

More generally, I am interested in Tech and even considered going into Tech roles or the VC/Crypto space.

Having had a quick browse through some of the forums, I'd like to clarify that I am not afraid of hard work or tough hours but it would be nice to have more control over my schedule. I also have an eye on settling down etc, which is why I considered Corp Dev.

I did quite well considering my background to get in to my current position, but it has been a while and I want to look for a new challenge. I am conscious that my first move out may be the most important.

This is a bit of a stab in the dark but hoping to focus my efforts with your help, thanks in advance!

Happy to answer any questions or clarify anything that is unclear.
