Was it really that crazy to apply for this role?

I applied for a job as a Regional Treasury manager for a big company ( required 3 years experience) I have an Mphil in Economics from my country’s best University. Last semester I studied investment and derivatives spare time, one class master level.

I speak three languages, and have some international experience ( studied abroad, internship controller)

I have worked as a Treasury advisor, performed simple fx forwards to hedge currency risk, cash flow. As well as spot, not to have risk related to the bank accunts.

I have worked for 6 years in a mid office job in a big Treasury team, and worked with way more professional people, monitoring Front Office, discussing, making forcasts and reported directly to the CEO. A portofolio of 6 billions in debt and with cross currency swaps in a variaty of currencies which market values have been rather volatile leading to huge collateral movements and triggering liquidity at risk.

I was told I did not belong in a Treasury team by the gut interviewing me. He said I should apply for a role in reporting at their company. He totally dismissed me and made me feel worthless.

I already applied for many jobs called Treasury manager, and nobody ever rejected me for doing reporting. Actually a big food chain said I lacked hedge accuting, but other than that would be a great fit, and a shipping company had me on an interview needing someone to follow up on coventants.

I actually thought I was a treasury manager, and we discussed changing our titles at work. We do some cash management as well, and meet with the banks. Other times I sit next to Front Office when they trade in FX all to monitor. What they trade are often time based on my forcast.
