What can corporate development pivot into?

I have spent about five years doing corporate development work, focusing a lot on M&A. Recently i've been on the lookout for opportunities because my company is having a major restructuring and i started thinking what else can i do. I thought i would like to do related work but realize it may not make sense to join another firm doing CD work now.

Has anyone successfully switched to other functions (FP&A, ER, IB, IR) and is happily engaged at work now?

I'm currently looking at research roles, hoping to become a sector specialist but no luck yet. I've only had some M&A related opportunities so far. Do you like your current role? And how long have you been in it?

You mentioned a few places already in your post.

When I was recently recruiting, I explored moving within Corp Dev. and FP&A. When I got an offer for both types of roles, I decided to stay in the CD role for a variety of reasons.

You can pivot to pure CD role, blended Corp Dev role, FP&A or another operational role. PE is also another route but not as commonly traveled and their is IB if you have not done it before as well.

I will say that I enjoy Corp Dev (M&A in general) quite a bit so I like my role and the people I work with (along with the pay bump)

Being based in Singapore, it is the regional HQ for many MNCs but i've not heard much about CD opportunities from recruiters nor see much of these job posts. I'll probably have to start looking outside of CD such as FP&A. I'll keep you guys posted.

I had the same thought a couple months back to enter IB just to "check that box". I spoke to a few people that i know and most had headcounts freeze - You are lucky to have some interest from the banks.
