As other posters said, it's all about the industry and that office's culture. If it's the corporate office then you want shoes that can work for business casual but can also be dressed up to business formal. Some offices (like mine) have instituted a casual dress code, so most people wear a clean pair of tennis shoes.. You never know. Best bet is to get a decent, conservative pair of brown shoes that can work with business casual, formal, or jeans.
