Would Investor Relations be a Good Rotation?

I have the opportunity to do a rotation in the investor relations division of my company as a part of my rotational program. I think the area is super interesting and I’d have the chance to work with the CEO and CFO during earnings

Would this be a good rotation? My dilemma is that I don’t plan on sticking with my company for long after the rotation. I’m aware that investor relations gigs are more senior in nature and my chances of landing one outside of my company would probably be low. Thanks!

I don't necessarily agree with your disposition towards investor relations job opportunities. That experience can particularly open doors for you within private banking, fundraising and or investor relations. There are increasing amount of roles opening up for account managers, institutional client relations etc.. at a lot of the megafunds. As we are seeing alternative asset management rise and become more democratised. More capital going into PE funds, wider stratification of customers means new jobs are created in terms of LP/investor servicing!I could go on for a while on the different opportunities where that experience would be relevant. Most important thing is if you like it and enjoy that type of work go for it and try it out while you are young before your career pigeonholes you before you notice !

Agreed with post above. IR is a high visibility role that can provide incredible experience that is highly transferable to many industries/roles. The potential for connections is also something to consider. Always good to rub elbows with upper management and build strong relationships. Beneficial to you whether you stay there long term or not, because chances are most of them will eventually move to new companies and can open more doors for you.
