Antares Updated Views
Does anyone have an updated view on the Antares private credit team? Reading prior posts, which are all quite dated, the general consensus has been that they underpay but offer a better WLB in return. I've heard that they moved their pay to match the street, and wonder if as a result WLB has been affected? The team is still primarily composed of ex-accountants / -consultants (non-IB backgrounds in general), so I assume that reflects the culture.
TLDR; what is WLB like (rough hours per week?) and where is pay compared to the market?
Confirmed culture is not bad and pay is now market. They are growing very quick and having trouble building out the infrastructure to support that. Deal flow is very strong. Rough hours per week is a wide range of 45-65 (note i am not embellishing as others often do on this website) with limited weekend work (once or two per quarter)
That's great to hear, I appreciate the non-embellished (hopefully) view on hours.
Are you currently an ASO at the firm? Do you know where pay is for associates (and above that if possible)? If it's street, I imagine Golub's current NYC associate listing at 170-185k base is a pretty good guide?
Do you have a sense of which groups are adding headcount? Any carry/equity comp at the Associate or AVP level?
I’d say hiring is pretty equal across groups. No carry component even at the senior levels
Associate pay is 300-350k all in depending on office, AVP is 400-450, VP is 500-550
Thank you. Last question - Does WLB improve as you get more senior (ASO -> AVP - VP, etc)? The obvious answer is yes given that's the case in banking / PE and the intuitive answer, but I've heard conflicting views for PC
I’d say it stays rather flat actually, at the senior associate level you will work less if your analyst or associate is solid but they often are meh and you have to pick up the slack. VP’s work maybe a little bit less but there’s more responsibility (similar to PE)
