Blue Owl SA 2025 Process (Nepo Kingdom?)

Dear all,

I've seen plenty of WASPy looking folks who have interned at Blue Owl in the past from seemingly very well connected backgrounds whether freshman or sophomore summer. I'm wondering what the process for their summer analyst program is like especially in their NYC DL or strategic equity group? Is it networking or is there a formal interview process because I have seen people apply legitimately in the past through portals? But like how do they pick? Sophomore summer prospects are looking rough...

Based on previous WSO threads, Blue Owl's recruitment process, particularly for their NYC Direct Lending (DL) or Strategic Equity group, seems to have a mix of formal and informal elements. While some candidates have successfully applied through portals, networking appears to play a significant role, especially given the perception of a "well-connected" candidate pool.

For sophomore summer analyst positions, the competition is indeed tough, and the selection process might lean towards candidates with strong networks or referrals. However, formal interviews are still part of the process for many, and preparation for both technical and behavioral questions is essential. If you're targeting Blue Owl, leveraging networking opportunities and reaching out to current analysts or alumni in those groups could significantly improve your chances.

Congrats! Same as the poster below: non-nepo but very lucky. We probably know each other if they interned this summer. Everyone who got an internship was insanely connected or had alumni rooting for them. Fantastic experience and I met a ton of close connections. August WFH is great because they just end the internship and you get to enjoy your summer.
