Can a VP Credit Risk lateral into PE?

Hey everyone. Credit Risk VP here. I'm at one of the top banks in the nation and manage a portfolio and underwrite new business for upper MM clients. I have an MBA from a respectable school and 10 years experience in what I do which consists of modeling, deal structuring, working on distressed deals, lot of face time with clients and I have a solid reputation within my industry. I am interested in buy side roles but a little clueless about how one would move in to such a role and at what level would be a realistic expectation (analyst, senior analyst, associate etc..)?

Any help is greatly appreciated.
