Credit Risk Exits Career Help

Curious on opportunities with HF’s or just in general for someone with a Credit Risk background, whether it’s Distressed investing, Lev Fin banking, Special Sit, HY ETC. I’m coming from a Credit Risk background at a BB (GS/JPM/MS), and was looking at long term prospects.

Also, I understand Credit Risk isn’t exactly the IB/PE pipeline people expect but it’s a great role and I really get to learn a lot with credit/industry research, modeling pay down and growth, as well as how credit fundamentally works. Wondering how to leverage that into a competitive application or any steps to make myself more competitive in the future for shops with a credit focus

You do some modeling at GS. You definitely don’t build from scratch but you drop in your own case and make sure there are no errors in the model. I’d argue you build out a better case than a base case because you have to think critically about your assumptions and will have to defend growth / margin assumptions.

Also you will have time to practice doing the pay down. Anytime I go through a model I mock model for my own benefit and make sure I know how everything flows and is connected.

At other banks you won’t ever be in the model.

Definitely not true lol

Mmbsi type role? How much modeling do you do and what types of places do people exit to

CIB, often on deal teams. Def some modeling but less in FIG. Exits to coverage/PC/DL etc. credit related roles not super hard to exit to
