Credit Shop Undergrad Recruiting

What are the best credit shops or special sits groups that hire out of undergrad and/or offer junior summer internships? I'm interested in anything credit-related. Currently a sophomore at a target-school, so I want to be as ambitious as possible for the coming recruiting season.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some credit shops and special situations groups known for hiring undergraduates or offering junior summer internships:

  • KKR Special Situations Group: Known for being quite exclusive and typically not investing in public distressed credit. They focus more on private equity-type sponsor deals and rescue financing. Historically, they seem to have a preference for candidates from Harvard.

  • Silver Point Capital: Has a reputation for hiring top students, particularly from Wharton, but also from other top schools like Duke, Ross, and Stern. Their interview process is noted to be less focused on distressed credit/restructuring.

  • BX-GSO (Blackstone's GSO Capital Partners): They don't frequently hire undergrads, but when they do, the analysts are placed into the Customized Credit Strategy group, which invests mostly in leveraged loans, high yield, and equity tranches of CLOs.

  • Bain Capital Credit: Located in Boston, they have an established summer program and tend to hire from New England target schools, with a preference for those who have previously interned with them.

  • Oakhill Advisors: Known to hire from a variety of target schools and have industry-focused analysts rather than strategy-focused, covering performing, opportunistic, and distressed investments within one sector.

  • KKR Leveraged Credit: Based in San Francisco, they mostly hire summer analysts from West Coast schools and focus on performing credit.

  • Aurelius Capital Management: A reputable shop that sometimes hires undergraduates.

Other firms that are known to hire undergraduates on a regular basis include:

  • Prudential Capital Group: Offers summer internships and a 3-year analyst program in private credit, workouts/distressed, and mezzanine/equity.

  • Antares Capital: Provides summer internships and an analyst program.

  • Goldman Sachs Specialty Lending Group: Hires full-time analysts out of college in certain locations.

These are just a few examples, and there are many other credit funds that may offer opportunities for ambitious undergraduates like yourself. It's important to network, stay informed about recruiting timelines, and prepare thoroughly for the interview process.
