Going into a niche field early on?

Hi everyone, for some context I am based in Germany and finished my Abitur around a year ago. I decided to do a "gap year(s)" by doing a 2 year long apprenticeship in (re)insurance broking, before going to uni. Why? Because despite being able to go to a good uni although my grades weren't the best, I didn't see myself in a headspace fit to performing well at uni. Additionally I thought that having some work experience at a well respected financial services firm would help me compensate for my grades, set me apart from other internship applicants while in Uni, and obviously help me orient myself career wise by having have worked in the financial services industry. Now, approx. a year into the program , I have just rotated (had to network in order to be able to do this) to a small team, comprised mainly of ex bankers (DWS, JP Morgan, etc.) who work on credit risk transfers for banks. The experience I am gaining is in structured credit, and bank regulatory capital requirements (apart from soft skills that come from dealing with DAX and F500 companies which I have already been doing for almost a year now). Specifically the team structures deals which involve CDS, and Credit Risk Insurance. Considering the niche focus on stuff such as Basel banking regulations, bank capital requirements, EU securitisation law, and structured credit, do you guys think this is a good stepping stone for careers in private credit, Investment Banking, or private equity down the line?
