Thoughts on RE Debt to PC transition in 1-3 years, realistic/doable?

Curious to see if it's realistic/doable to jump from a summer internship in Conduit CMBS Originations directly to something like a structured credit role in PC. I understand that fixed-rate RE debt is pretty narrow, so also curious if it'd be worth recruiting for a full-time role in a structured products group at a BB/UMM before trying to make the transition to PC. If these paths don't work, what would be my best course of action to jump into PC (if it's still worth entering)?

CMBS Experience at WF; previous Agency Finance Experience (Fannie/Freddie). Other previous internships. Semi-target school.
