Any books to read for an incoming equity research summer associate?
Any book recommendations relating to equity research?
I've read quite a few of the investment classics (particularly value investing), so I'd prefer something more specific to equity research.
Not really a how-to book but I enjoyed Dan Reingold's Confessions of a WS Analyst

Looks like a decent read, thanks man
I found Best Practices for Equity Research Analysts (https://www.amazon.com/Best-Practices-Equity-Research-Analysts/dp/00717…) helpful
Yeah I'd heard about this. I'm currently working my way through 'valuation' by McKinsey, and I've heard there's quite a lot of overlap between the two.
Though I'll probably get round to reading it eventually anyway.
Cheers.
Great book. I'd also recommend this.
Good, detailed ER book (Originally Posted: 11/13/2009)
Hey all, Im a first year Associate (in Canada - where Analyst is senior, Associate is junior) and Im looking for a strong, tip to tail book that will enhance my skills in ER. Any good recommendations?
Read the basic value investing texts.
Security Analysis (Graham + Dodd) The Intelligent Investor (Graham + Dodd) Margin of Safety (Klarman)
Already have, except Margin of Safety, I was looking for a research specific book that detials the industry, tips, techniques of top analysts, etc.
Wall Street Meat is an interesting book that details the ins and outs of equity research during the tech bubble. I had to read that for my internship and found it rather insightful with interesting anecdotes. Discusses Blodget and all ofthose other high profile analysts at that time.
Some years ago I read a book called Security Analysis on Wall Street. You might be interested in part 2 of the book, "Performing the Analysis and Writing the Research Report." The book at this point is dated (came out 10 years ago), but maybe there's a new addition.
Confessions of a Wall Street Analyst by Dan Reingold
If you're looking for something like a textbook, there's Equity Valuation: Models from Leading Investment Banks (Wiley). I don't have experience with it, but it's supposed to be a good introductory text that covers basically everything while balancing theory/practice. For industry analysis, I guess the best thing would be a corporate strategy book, or a book about each sector you cover. There are also good websites (including government sites) that track important news, indicators, and trends, but of course the specific site will depend on the sector. Also, remember that while good analysis is important, great writing also makes a big difference in the report's quality. While they're not something that can really help you overnight, some business writing books might help. Just a thought.
