Breaking in to ER, US grad studying in European masters. London or NY?

Hi all, long time lurker now looking for some advice.

I graduated from a top 10 college in the US in 2013, worked 1 year at a sovereign wealth fund as an analyst doing trading desk stuff and some financial analysis. I was moving to a private fund in NY when I ran into some major delays with my green card application so I unfortunately had to drop the job. Meantime facing the threat of being kicked of the US, I applied to a MSc Finance program in Europe and was accepted.

I traveled while my Visa issue was resolved and I recently received my green card in the states. I was working on some start-up stuff remotely and finished Level 1 and 2 of CFA.

Right now in the masters program now in Europe and I'm looking to break into ER because it's a field that really appeals to me. I did some PA investing with my salary when I was getting paid so I know it's a field that gets me excited. I'm considering taking an internship and then try to work my way to becoming a full time analyst.

My school is pretty well placed for getting jobs in London however I do face some competitive disadvantage since I will need to deal with Visa issues again. I definitely see myself to do my career long-term in the US since I have to try to maintain my green card by not being out of the US for more than 2 years at a time.

Question is:

Should I try for an internship in London vs NY? If I do something London, is it possible to take that experience back into the US? Also I was very familiar with the undergraduate recruiting process but now I'm in the strange spot with some experience yet in a slightly older cohort so I'm not sure if I have a good chance with the summer programs. I'm definitely willing to consider off cycle stuff but I need to get on with my networking. It's kind of difficult to network with US based people when I'm halfway across the ocean. I've already submitted about 10 ER applications in London but no responses so far. I'd like to be more focused in my job search so if you have any suggestions I'd be glad to hear them.

Thanks
