Critique My Model

Hello All,

I am a recent college graduate from a target university trying to break into equity research. I have decided to start building models to send to analysts when a position is open on their team. I would love it if anyone would be interested in critiquing my model.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some key points to consider when building and seeking feedback on your model:

  1. Intensive Effort and Organization:

    • Ensure your model is comprehensive and well-organized. It should be evident that it took significant effort and critical thinking to build.
    • Even if the model isn't perfect, the effort and thought process behind it can impress potential employers.
  2. Attach a Writing Sample:

    • Along with your model, include a writing sample. Ideally, this should be something published, such as an article in an academic journal or a school newspaper. This demonstrates your ability to communicate your analysis effectively.
  3. Networking and Contacting Analysts:

    • When reaching out to equity research analysts, try to find old equity research reports that list contact information. Company websites, especially those of boutique firms, may also provide contact details.
    • Personalize your outreach and attach your model and writing sample to show your dedication and skills.
  4. Feedback and Iteration:

    • Be open to feedback and ready to iterate on your model. The goal is to continuously improve and demonstrate your willingness to learn and adapt.
  5. Building Interpersonal Skills:

    • While technical skills are crucial, don't neglect interpersonal and leadership skills. Effective networking and purposeful communication can significantly enhance your career prospects.

By following these guidelines, you can create a strong impression and increase your chances of breaking into equity research. Good luck!
