Energy Equity Research
how I can become an expert in energy equity research? what do you read to understand the energy sector? how do you qualify which equities are worth to invest in? any tips on how to become "indispensable" as an Energy Equity Research Analyst is appreciated
Honestly alot of reading, the FT should be your bible but ER reports are hard to come by if you are not in the industry. fitch, moody's, and S&P have solid industry reports you can read. Have fun.
Energy ER Associate here - I think the best way to understand energy value chain is by reading primers and looking at IR decks of companies that represents different part of the value chain (Exxon and Chevron for integrated, conoco for E&P and phillips 66 for downstream, etc)… Energy sector is very complicated and dynamic… like Opec+ production ramp ups, Russian Invasion of Ukraine, strategic petroleum reserve, and inventory levels etc all affect oil and gas prices… so it is very important to read news on daily basis… also EIA and IEA publishes a lot of data and reports on daily basis which you can look into as well.
