Equity research hours in Toronto

I'm looking to switch from industry to equity research in Toronto.

Can anyone give me a rough idea what hours the "typical" research associate works once they have got up to speed (this is only for Toronto)? I've heard materially varying accounts (and this very well could be the case across Bay Street, just want to ask). A buddy of mine who worked for a big six as an associate said he generally worked 50-60 hours (7:00 to somewhere between 5:00 and 7:00) during non-earnings and 70-80 during earnings. Whereas another source told me 70 hours during non-earnings and much worse during earnings. I typically work ~55 hours a week in my current job, so I wouldn't like to significantly worsen my lifestyle, however, I don't mind working longer hours if there is reasonable predicatability. Does this exist in ER? I've heard it does for the most part, subject to acquisitions, major news items etc. from the companies you cover.

Obviously this will vary by analyst and industry, but can someone who feels they worked an "average" amount (eg. didn't get cranked and didn't have it really easy) chime in?

Thanks!
