Equity Research Product Analyst or Risk Analyst?
I am in the discussion phase for two opportunities with the firm that I am currently interning for. I am a recent graduate, and will likely receive offers for the two positions of an equity research product analyst and an Asset Management risk analyst.
As an equity research product analyst, I will be analyzing the impact of our equity research and proposing strategies for making the research more proprietary in nature. I will also be charged with generating ideas for greater monetization of the research. I believe that this role would be the more challenging of the two, given the commoditized nature of ER today.
As a risk analyst, my duties would be to evaluate the risk levels of funds in our portfolios, suggest allocation limits, and give ratings to holdings within the portfolios. I would also be charged with generating periodic performance reports and staying abreast of economic conditions. This would be the least challenging of the two, given that my background and competencies would fully support this role.
If my long-term goal is move over to the corporate side and become a C-level executive, which role do you believe would be the best starting point?
