Is a career in Equity Research in London still worth pursuing as an undergrad?

I have wanted to break into the equity research sector for a while now and have gained relevant internships to prepare for a summer internship in ER in order to get a full time role - however looking at the situation on the street right now has made me re-evaluate whether it is decision still worth taking.

Would I be better off at this point looking at other divisions which may provide more chances of a career out of undergrad?

Why would you want to transition from a physical shop to ER...
