Is Equity Research Dying - Where Are the Future Opportunites?

Qualified as a CA at Big 4 (3.5 years) and have been at a boutique asset manager covering UK equities for 2.5 years. Starting to look for new opps on both the buy and sell side and it has struck me how few roles there and and how competitive it is. This begs the question - is this industry dying and where are the opportunities?

Even if I do find another role, it seems unlikely that I will be able to play out the remaining 30 years of my career in this industry, and AI is going to unhelpful regarding job prospects for most. Keen to hear people's views on this and how they are positioning themselves for a sustainable career in a, potentially, unsustainable industry. Have you thought about exiting the equity research industry and, if so, what industries could you pivot into?
