MS Fixed income research hackerrank

Hi

Does anyone have any previous experience with the hacker rank challenge and what it generally consists of. I have no previous experience in coding and wonder whether it would be worth doing a python crash course in preparation for it (for context: the invitation email says it is testing my potential ability to code not my current ability to code)

Does anyone also have any info on what a first round fixed income research interview is like at MS?

Thanks in advance.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here's what you need to know:

  1. HackerRank Challenge for Fixed Income Research:

    • The challenge typically tests your potential ability to code rather than your current proficiency.
    • Given that you have no previous experience in coding, it would be beneficial to take a Python crash course to familiarize yourself with basic coding concepts and syntax.
  2. First Round Fixed Income Research Interview at MS:

    • While specific details about the MS Fixed Income Research interview aren't provided in the context, you can refer to similar interview processes for insights.
    • For example, the Jefferies SA 2021 Fixed Income Sales and Trading first-round interview might give you an idea of what to expect. These interviews can vary in technicality, so it's good to prepare for both technical and behavioral questions.
  3. General Preparation Tips:

    • Brush up on basic financial concepts and current market data.
    • Practice coding problems on platforms like HackerRank to get a feel for the types of questions that might be asked.
    • Review common interview questions related to fixed income research, such as valuation methods, market trends, and specific financial metrics.

Good luck with your preparation!
