Never send email without a period

Equity Research is all about publication, so if you are not good in writing it can be a tough place for you.

Last week, I had a coffee with one of the ER analyst and he mentioned me that in my email I was missing a period. So, lesson learned.

Also, I am wondering if some one can share tips to improve writing skills.

A period missing can make a paragraph read pretty stupidly if it's right in the middle. If it was at the end of the paragraph, or a stand alone sentence, then I don't really know why he made a deal out of it.

I think he was stressing that ER is a publishing industry and you need to be good in writing. He was a Engineer who worked in oil and gas companies for 8 years before moving to finance.

NewspeakTake humanities classes where the professor critiques your writing, like English or Philosophy. Pick up the Strunk & White book. Maybe get the MGMAT Sentence Correction book. It's a GMAT prep book but it goes into grammar/style rules in depth. Also, write a lot.

Speaking as someone in with 3-years of SS ER exp, that analyst sounds like a douche.

Period.

For grammar and the "technicals" of writing get a copy of The Elements of Style by Strunk and White. Read it and cherish it.

And, the best way to become better at writing ER reports is by actually writing research reports and asking people to critique them. Humanities classes or whatever BS classes require a completely different type of writing IMO. College humanities professors =/= Those who read ER reports.
