Any recommendations for leather laptop/messenger bags?
Hi All,
I'm going to be starting as an analyst at a BB in NYC and am looking for a classic, solid laptop/messenger bag. I'm a big fan of traditional full-grain brown leather with clean lines and nothing too outlandish. Targeting $200-400.
Any links/brands/advice is appreciated. Thanks
Leatherology.com.
My girlfriend got me a nice wallet from leatherology - fantastic product.
Campo Marzio has some great products such as this [https://www.campomarzio.it/borsa-porta-documenti-toscana]. Not sure they ship to the US though.
Wore my backpack out of work today and my SVP goes, "...You heading to fucking night school with that thing?". When I asked for bag suggestions, she told me, "Just get an Yves Saint Laurent bag"... $1200+
Not a chance, still looking.
Yeah that's why I want a messenger bag, a backpack is for school kids. Have you found any more affordable options?
Got a very durable, very simple black leather Longchamp large briefcase(was a gift, and gotta say a good one). I can fit my laptop and everything I need.
Tumi. You can get one around $400
This. Tumi is the best. They have everything from messenger bags to backpacks to garment bags
Prince of Scots Wanderlust Big Bag. I Swear by it. Check it out on Amazon
Went to their website and they have some really great deals. Love to look of them too. They hold up okay? Seems way too cheap to be quality.
Have had it for a year and no signs of it breaking down anytime soon
Tumi, if you're an Investment Banker that is... grab one from the website and initial it BSD.
Some of their leathers look pretty solid. And doing PE at a large MM bank.
I like a few that Cole Haan carries and they go on sale a lot.
Loser
Stop into Nordstrom rack on 31st, sometimes they have some nice ones. I have a Cole Haan that looks nice and does the job. Also check ebay for some used ones if that's cool with you.
Can't go wrong with Tumi. I'd prefer backpacks over messenger bags and have had my Tumi one for years with no issues. It's a good, functional brand. Nice enough that no one will ever give you shit about it, but also functional enough that it actually works and you won't worry about scuffing your $1,500 leather backpack from YSL.
.
Fantastic brand
Check out Daniel's. Its a guy who is has a kickstarter going to scale his inexpensive but good quality briefcase company. For $150.00 for a leather briefcase you cant go wrong https://danielsnyc.com/
I have a Roots brown leather laptop bag that I get lots of compliments on. Directly in your price range.
If you have a leather worker or leather repair shop near you, stop in and check out what they offer. I had a messenger bag/satchel made a few years ago and I absolutely love it. It's hard to beat a high-quality handmade bag. It's nothing fancy, but I'm not really a fancy dude so it suits me well. The leather has aged really well and looks better with a little wear-and-tear on it. I can't remember exactly what it cost but I think it was in the neighborhood or $300-$400.
Got my Ted Baker bag as a gift, love it
Found some forum posts from a few years ago listed below for anyone else looking.
