I was thinking a pair of earthy tone or even black loafers with dark jeans for going out. I feel like in the summer time this could be great.
Obviously I wouldn't wear these in the office.

Yeah - pretty much everyone from the Northeast wears loafers/topsiders without socks in the summer.
Personally, I'd go with topsiders, because my shoes tend to get beat up over the course of the summer (spilled drinks stain like hell) and topsiders are cheap.
What about penny loafers (obviously with out the penny) or a variant of the gucci loafer (no horsebit)
gamos, only in summer. depends on your shop. if conservative to point where young guys are expected to rock tassels to get ahead in life then clearly don't do this.
