Attire for informal meetings?

Was wondering what you guys would suggest wearing for an informal networking meeting.

I'm heading to a city Friday night to negotiate details on an offer with a boutique AM firm, and the guy I'm meeting with told me just to wear jeans and a t-shirt (will wear polo).

I took the chance to email a couple of guys I've had informational interviews with over the fall that went extremely well and tell them that I'll be in town for the weekend and asked if they'd be interested in meeting for coffee or me coming into the office.

What would you suggest wearing to a meeting with the other guys? It would be my first time meeting them in person.

No sneakers. Wear dress shoes. Make sure the jeans aren't frayed at the end. If they are, get that fixed or don't wear jeans and wear khaki's. Collared polo is recommended. Maybe a suit jacket. Jeans are okay if he said jeans are okay.

you cant wear a collared polo with a suit jacket, thats silly. its gotta be a button down ... and not a suit jacket, a blazer ..... jeans or khakis

If you...need to consult an online forum..to ask how to dress..... in a muthafuckin meeting with someone one year older than you...then just give up now because life gets a lot harder that this.

"I don't know how to explain to you that you should care about other people."

I was trying to confirm what an appropriate dress code for an informal chat was, not how to talk to someone two years older than me. And seeing as how he'll have some influence on me getting the internship, it's not dumb to try to make a good impression regardless of how old he is.

By "knowing how it's like to talk to someone who's older than you by a year", I meant the whole package of presenting yourself, including how to dress for the occasion.

What's the context? Is it lunch on a weekend? Or during a weekday in between classes? If it's a weekend lunch, I'd say dress up slightly more. But if it's only a weekday lunch, I'd say wear something nice that you would feel comfortable wearing to class... for me that'd be a short-sleeve polo with jeans.

I just have to ask the question how? How did you get enough courage to talk to him in the first place if you don't even know what you're going to wear when you meet with him?

The answer to your question is 1) network 2) get involved 3) beef up your resume 4) repeat -happypantsmcgee WSO is not your personal search function.

Wear a penis suit of course. But remember to cut off the balls, since you obviously have none.

Just go with a plain button-up shirt and pants. Wearing a jacket seems over the top, wearing a t-shirt is stupid for obvious reasons.

Great! Thank you for the comment. I suppose it was a matter of whether the jacket was over the top, and I agree.

Now that I have the attire sorted, time to focus on questions to ask ;).

Thanks again!
