Do women at other banks also dress like this?

As I think about starting full-time later this year and preparing my wardrobe, I have a question for those working in NYC. I did an internship at JPM in NYC last summer, and I was kind of shocked by what I saw. I came from the west coast, and my impression was that people working on Wall Street would lean more on the business formal side, especially with a more traditional institution like JPM, but that is not what I observed at all for women at various levels at the firm.

I saw female MDs and VPs wearing denim skirts and jackets to the office on a non-friday. Women wearing open-toed wedges. Some of them might not all be IB or AM bc some of these were observed in the cafeteria, but it was a lot more casual than I anticipated. I felt like I wasted a lot of money preparing all these suits for the internship because the only time the women and even the men who weren't old school MDs ever threw on a blazer was during a client meeting, and it would immediately come off afterwards. I even saw an associate wearing sneakers and jeans with a knit top to the office on a non-Friday. Is this becoming a thing at the banks, or did I just witness a really odd summer? Because I would love to not have to buy as many formal office clothes

Do you see women at your office wearing open toed shoes though? Just curious how much I can get away with bc close toed heels give me bad blisters.

Can you tell me which old shop allowed women to wear mini skirts? It’s way too fucking hot these days, so I’m wondering if I can get away with mid thigh skirts in the office.

Welcome to finance in 2025—where dress codes are just 'vibes' now. As long as you’re not walking in with Crocs and a beach towel, no one really cares. The old-school ‘suit or die’ mentality is fading, and if an MD can wear sneakers and a denim jacket, you can definitely dodge those blister-inducing heels. Just don’t push it too far—finance still isn’t tech.
