First "Nice" Watch

Hi all -- I'm in the market for my first "nice" watch this year. I already have a couple of steel sports watches (Submariner, Panerai) but am looking for a thin, dressy watch that would look good both with a Tux and in the office. Ideally something in gold (either white or rose gold, not a huge fan of yellow gold) or platinum that's fairly slim and understated. Looking to spend around $20k but am flexible on either side.

Here are a couple I was considering--want to get opinions on these as well as any other options that may be worth considering.

Great choices. I would go white gold or platinum because they are far more flexible than rose gold or yellow gold.

Also, in that price range, I would buy a used Lange & Sohne Saxonia. Far better horological bang for buck. Ridiculous finishing.

Whether you buy a $100,000 watch from them or their "entry" level Saxonia. The finishing is just as good across all models. Here's my Lange 1.

Lange is AMAZING value used by the way. Offer the guys on WatchBox a little less than they have one listed for. Solid used dealers and generally good prices + good warranty.

Love the fact you are considering a VC. It would be worth looking into the Overseas range, with the interchangeable straps. I would also add a JLC master ultrathin moonphase or perpetual calendar in rose gold. Great to wear under a Tux, suit or casual. Let us know what you eventually went for. The price range you mentioned allows for some great watches

Once you buy it - you get the metal bracelet, leather strap and rubber strap.

Great way to vary the look!

Grand Seiko is just the bomb overall, superb quality in every single aspect, but might be too "cheap" for snobs. Otherwise go for A. Lange & Söhne Saxonia, like @m_1" said.

Really? I´ve had the impression that the high prices are caused by the still Japan-centered market, but maybe there´s just not yet a community actively reselling used GS, unlike with the big swiss names.

I second the VC and JLC options. I would also throw in the likes of Blancpain or used Patek. Love the thin-leather-banded-simple-dial vibe. Very classy and sneaky amount of comfort/subtlety. I have noticed this choice is very popular amongst the younger crowd in Europe (family is from Europe) vs. the SS preference in the USA.

I will likely go that route for sake of diversifying after recently picking up a special serial# Daytona.

Don't know if it's come up already, but I'm a big fan of the https://www.audemarspiguet.com/en/watch-collection/royal-oak/?gclid=EAI…</a">Audemars Piguet Royal Oak. In my opinion, it's a build on the Rolex Submariner (which I see you already have) - while perhaps a less "iconic" sports watch outright, it's certainly more exclusive and, among those with even a passing knowledge of wrist-wear, certainly a proper f*ck off kettle.
