Funny attire observation

I was told the best way to figure out ideal attire isn't to read about it on some blog but simply show up one day at a bank and observe what people are wearing.

So i did. But it was a Friday so doesn't really count because most people dress down a bit on Fridays.

Location: Canary Wharf.

This is the funny part. The first person to walk in...no joke...wore red pants and a blue bordering on purplish shirt, with a big hat and, get this, a briefcase that was handcuffed to his wrist. He was an anomaly...but funny little incidence.

Imagining the poor chap who saw him and decided to roll into an interview dressed the same way :)

This was probably a person who thought finance was way sexier than it actually is

Listen, here's the thing. If you can't spot the sucker in the first half hour at the table, then you are the sucker.

Love it! Probably daddy's briefcase, resume printed out by mommy and a broken earpiece. Theatrics oh theatrics.

Walked into my building today and saw a guy getting in the elevator with a button tucked into his cargo pants and a pair of sketchers. Spent the next hour trying to wrap my head around where he could work that would think that was acceptable. Then wasted an hour with my team discussing how that guy has a job.

He probably works in advertising. My brother works in it and the first time I went to his office I was simply shocked at how everyone was dressed, all the way up to the sr. partners, and he's at a really good agency in a major city. I wasn't expecting Brooks Brothers but I'm talking ratty shorts & t-shirts with flip flops.

Maybe he owns the company? Seriously why does it matter what a guy wears so long as he is competent at what he does. Tech companies in general have very relaxed dress code/no dress code including multi billion AUM quant driven HFs (e.g. Tower Research Capital). Even Bloomberg is like that. Walk into their NYC headquarters and you will see programmers and software engineers walking around in flip flops. The only people there who dress to impress are journalists or in sales.
Too late for second-guessing Too late to go back to sleep.
