Goldman Sachs Business Casual?

Hi everyone! I am attending a symposium for Goldman Sachs soon and the dress code is stated as "business casual". I know it isnt too serious but I was wondering what would be appropriate as a female. Also, I am a first year undergrad and unfamiliar with what i would do at a spring symposium. If anyone has any tips/insight that would be great. Thanks!

Nice! I'll go buy a skirt suit then. What kind of blouse? Sorry I'm such a noob but I'm nervous haha. Also, what exactly goes on at these symposiums?

Hey GLCIB27 I was wondering if you received any info or further directions from GS. It says that i have been selected but nothing more? What did you receive upon being accepted for the symposium?

Do you guys go to school in the NYC/ Northeast US area? I had applied but was rejected due to a lack of proximity (also applied on the last day available if that means anything).

Women have a bit more leeway than men. A few words of advice to keep things "business casual"

  • Don't wear a black suit unless you plan on wearing a brightly colored or less "business" top if at all possible. Not a sequin shell - but a bright color, fun print, or flowy fabric.
  • Don't wear a suit that has a matching dress and jacket (the ones in suiting fabric or boucle) - those are far too formal. A dress with a coordinated blazer is fine.
  • Skirt or pants and a coordinating jacket with a blouse is perfect
  • Always bring some sort of topper - on the west coast this can be a nice cashmere or merino cardi but on the east coast it should be some sort of blazer/jacket.
  • One benefit to wearing pants is that it eliminates the "should I wear hose/tights?" debate. The wrong choice can rub people the wrong way - so I usually won't wear skirts or dresses until after I have met someone the first time. It's not going to kill an offer but can immediately impact a first impression. Even with business casual there are some people who believe women should not have bare legs - there's an equal amount of women who think hose/tights are far too stuffy for modern times.
