How many suits should I buy? Summer Intern

I am a freshman and I am going to start a summer internship at a BB PWM local branch soon. I was wondering how many suits/shirts you guys recommend I should buy for the internship and what color (maybe one black and one dark blue?). I own suits but none of them fit me right now so I would be starting from zero. Also, is JC Penney and Macy's a good place to start or should I invest a little more money for higher quality? Thank you very much.

In a week you can get by with: 2 suits (Navy & Charcoal/grey) 3-5 shirts 5 socks 1 (2 if different color black/brown) belts 1 (2 if different color black/brown) pairs of shoes

for a whole summer, 5 Suits 10-15 Shirts 2-4 Shoes (matching belts) 6-10 Ties 40 Pairs of socks

Remember, look good, feel good, play good

Make sure you even need to go full suit and tie first. Two or three suits (charcoal and navy colors, no pure black), but buy two pairs of pants for each. The number of shirts depends on how often you want to do laundry, but I'd say 10 should suffice. I got my summer intern suits from Macy's; you're a freshman, so I don't think there's a reason to invest in really nice suits yet.

Like goblan said, make sure you need a suit and if you do ask about casual Fridays-you'll only need 4 days of suits if so. Don't buy a black suit, they're more formal evening wear and not business suits. Grey and navy for the base of a wardrobe, skip stripes or patterns. You could probably get away with two suits if you can time your dry cleaning. 5 shirts, especially if you're living at home for the summer and laundry's easier. I don't know how much you can spend or how much a suit at JC Penny's or Macy's costs, but also check out places like Joseph A Banks. They have different levels of suits and they're always doing sales like 3 for ones. I've bought a few travel suits there and they're not bad.

Call the reception and ask what the dress code is for the office, and what they would expect an intern to wear. It's pretty doubtful you'd have to wear a full suit to just fetch their coffee.

If you do buy a suit: do not buy black. Do buy dark blue or dark grey (charcoal) suits. Do not buy too many or anything too expensive, as you're only a freshman and your size will change.

Invest in at least ONE good suit, and bring it to an alterations tailor to make sure it fits. Alternatively, you can bring in your current suits to an alterations tailor, assuming the only issue is fit.

(Honestly, if you had run a search on this you'd see there are already a gazillion posts on this. But I'm a big House of Cards fan, so you're welcome)

You want around 8-12 for IB. S&T you can get away with 5-8.

Colors - Mostly shades of blue. one or two white. one or two gray/striped/pattern Styles - As long as it fits well. look into slim/extra slim Quality - Make sure its not see through,

Don't listen to the "Brooks Brothers else you're working for Verizon" comments. If you can afford BB, definitely get it. Well worth the money. But 8 shirts will run you 400+ at its cheapest. So if youre on a tight budget, go to macys or something. pick a 20-30 dollar brand. make SURE you have your correct size. neck and length.

trust me, nobody really cares what brand you wear as long as its a good fit and cant see through your shirt.

Banking.

but i WILL add. there is a noticeable difference after 5-6 washes. But if youre on a tight budget, an affordable brand at macys will last you the same.

Banking.

5 shirts is enough. i made do with 3 brooks brother's and 2 kirkland shirts for sa. 2 pairs of pants. like even if it is kind of dirty, no one is gonna be close enough to notice. at least they shouldn't be that close.

If you have the money get a navy blue suit. I'd get the navy blue shade that you can actually tell is navy blue, not the almost black navy blue. just my $0.02

if you will be working at least 5 days a week for 2 weeks then yes you will need another suit. also, no black suits.

nonperforming assetI would wait unitl Jos A Bank has a buy one, get two free sale. Get a charcoal, lighter gray, and navy.
NO. jos a bank sucks. do not waste your money there

Canali and Zegna suits are only like $1,700.

I think you should get a dark navy and a charcoal. You shouldn't wear black, but if you can't help it due to finances, it is what it is. You don't need to worry about getting all fancy and dropping a lot of cash, but you will need a couple of suits and one wont cut it.

Flake, I got a couple zegnas and I love the material. My favorite is a very dark navy armani though. That's my go-to for any important client meeting.

You need one suit...that is not black. A black suit is funeral attire. Just go buy a decent suit and get it over with. You will need it for interviews anyways.

If money is an issue, try second hand or a low end suit. Once you get to Jos. A Bank level quality, most people will not know the difference. Just take it to a good tailor.

I will say that those made to measure suit services are really quite good deals. You won't need it tailored either, so that is an extra savings.

Angus MacgyverHmmmm. I've always found this thing against black suits very strange. They seem very common in Asia.

It is also common to eat dogs in Asia.

You'll need braces and a tie clip too, GS is really strict on their employees looking smart.

Thanks guys. One more question regarding ties. Is it better to go for plain ones or should they have stripes etc?

Both plain and stripes work, just make sure there is contrast. Be tasteful about it but on a slightly more conservative side.

If you're starting out, start with plain navy or plain charcoal. Then add stripes. Don't wear the black suit, dude.

If you are going to work, don't wear black suits too often. Get yourself a break and try something catchy, like blue with self linnning, or white stripes etc

Hello, You can buy how many pairs you want, it's up to you. You can also use formal i.e shirts and pants. According to me, you should use fancy colours like grey, royal blue and black also you can wear. If you are looking for formal wear, suits, blazers etc then Mens Wear shops in Amravati has all the latest collections.
