SirTrades needs some shoe suggestions

See title. I like to kick my shoes off under my desk, so no lace ups (also, I'm a lazy bastard). I bought a pair of Moreschi shoes over ten years ago that have elastic bands where laces normally go, which I still wear. Those are my all-time favorite shoes, but they don't make them anymore. Good loafers suggestions would be appreciated. Ideally not Allen Edmonds, Alden, Gucci, or Ferragamo, because I already know or own those. Brown or black is fine. No metal buckles (or whatever those are called). Also, do tassels make you look like a geezer?

Thanks.

When you say metal buckles do you mean the horsebit?

yes, I bought one pair that broke within a week because my feet are too fucked up of a shape, I guess.

For what it's worth, a guy who works at a Ferragamo store told me they have a lifetime warranty on the Gancini buckle.

You're at the level where you can start balling out with your shoes. Since you yourself say you have fucked up feet, look into bespoke shoes from brands like John Lobb and Gaziano & Girling. If that's too much of a hassle for you, brands like Crockett & Jones, Edward Green, and Carmina are a step above the brands you already own.

I think the shoe above suits your requirements (you can of course change the color of the leather and remove the motif on the toe if you so choose since it's a bespoke service).

I definitely give you points for creativity. However, I think I would rather put a bullet through my skull than pay $3,000 for a pair of shoes. Maybe it's worth it to someone who can tell the difference, but I certainly can't.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. Nobody answered this question: do tassels make you look like a geezer or are they ok?

Here were a couple I thought looked cool:

Fair enough. Maybe something like these then.

It's a pretty good time to buy shoes from UK sites since the dollar is the strongest it's been against the British pound for a while now. You won't have to pay VAT, either.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but you're in your thirties at least (well, that's the impression that I get from your posts and your job status). This is up for debate, but personally, I think tassels would be fair game for you. I don't think they look fashionable at all, however.

If you buy a tassled shoe, I can guarantee you, whatever sex you think you might have in your future will go dramatically down.

I bought my first pair of shoes with tassles after I got married. Ass is no longer an issue at that point, cuz I ain't gettin' none!

Love it! There's got to be a tassels/assless joke somewhere in there, but I can't put it together.

BTW, here in the South tassels are fratty as hell. Of course we also still wear bowties and seersucker suits.

I know this is far from GQ but, tassled loafers are as in as they can be right now. Grab an Esquire or GQ at a mag stand and it's all you see.

Not sure if you're being serious or not but out of curiosity I just flipped through the most recent Esquire (Leo on the cover). 2 loafers were shown, neither had tassles.

Tassel loafers are seriously making a comeback. Here's a recent GQ article: http://www.gq.com/style/blogs/the-gq-eye/2013/03/the-new-shoe-of-the-se… Anyway, I guess it's sort of a hate it or love it shoe.

How about something a little bolder? Something like this tells people you are above the fray and you don't have to play by their rules.

Kicking your shoes off under my desk is the best. I also have ADD so I am constantly slipping my feet in and out of the shoes or twirling them with my feet.

This to all my hatin' folks seeing me getting guac right now..

You enjoy it when other people kick their shoes off under your desk?

I highly recommend Meermin if you want somewhat cheaper loafers that rival the construction quality of Alden etc. I have these myself, and I absolutely love them: http://meermin.es/ficha_articulo.php?id=1939

If you have a higher budget I'd go for Carmina shell cordovan loafers, these are my personal favorite: http://www.carmina.telemaco.es/articulo.asp?idarticulo=3476660

Tassel loafers won't make you look like a geezer at all, they're actually coming back in style.

the wink on the right foot is what sold me on these.

Too late. I bought up the whole supply; now I'm going to set up my own retail website/app to sell them for double.

HBS here I come.

All we need to do is show a little class, a little sophistication, and we’re in like a dirty shirt.

I am well below 30 and I wear tassels all the time. Anyone who immediately says tassels (or any other type of nice dress shoe within reason) makes you look "geezerish" without seeing you or what you are wearing with them, probably wouldnt be able to appreciate it even if you had on something else anyways.

DON'T TOUCH JIMMY!!!!

Honestly, if I were in the position you were, I'd be wearing hunting boots to the office.

But that's me.

To answer your original question though, I'd be rocking some Peal & Co.'s from Brooks Brothers, like the white and brown spectator loafers from their Gatsby collection. http://www.brooksbrothers. com/The-Great-Gatsby-Collection-White-and-Brown-Spectator-Loafer/MH00323,default,pd.html?dwvar_MH00323_Color=WHIT&contentpos=8&cgid= Perfect for Steeplechase!

Or, if you thought you might need to go for a swim right after work (and seriously, who doesn't?) http://www.brooksbrothers. com/The-Great-Gatsby-Collection-White-and-Brown-Spectator-Loafer/MH00323,default,pd.html?dwvar_MH00323_Color=WHIT&contentpos=8&cgid=

Did you see the cane? Most ballingest shit I've seen in a while, esp for $150. I kind of want that.

Sorry, no real advice for Sir Trades outside of my usual Allen Edmonds recommendation. I'd rather see the dude get some nice tassle loafers than the stupid horsebit loafers.

Full disclosure: I want the stupid horsebit loafers.

Dude I love the cane! I want the straw boater hat, burgundy stripe regatta blazer, and the tipped blazer. Any of that junk would be perfect for Steeplechase (Nashville's horse race) this weekend, but my sister-in-law graduates college. Apparently it's rude not to go to that?

I'll second the comment about hassle loafers being a southern thing. Super fratty. I rarely see a horsebit, with the exception of when I look at my own feet.

Get a pair of Berluti. I will get a pair some day when I cannot resist the temptation anymore.

Invest first, investigate later.

That's the problem. I've seen one guy so far who really rocked them. It was an Italian guy in a Boggi Milano store. In every other case, the dude looked pretty clueless in wearing them (in fact, these were exactly those "oh I've seen it in GQ they are hawt"-guys who look still more authentic wearing Air Jordans in a business setting).

ANTONIO MAURIZI. Great shoes, comfortable, look beautiful, and aren't too expensive ($400-$700). Truly beautiful craftsmanship.

"What the hell would I ever say to a gorrilla?

I've always liked Brooks Brothers shoes. They're around $600 which is pretty reasonable, I've only bought one pair from them, but they've lasted me almost two years now, and they're pretty comfortable. Also if you've got serious foot issues you may want to go to a specialty running store and see about having them make you some custom fit inserts for your shoes. I had this done to my running shoes and I've noticed a huge reduction in my knee pain. Not quite sure if it will work the same for your foot, but it's worth a try.

I actually also always take my shoes off under my desk. And I'm a woman. What does that make me?
