Suits from India?

I have an insanely rich uncle who has bragged on numerous occasions how he always stocks up on custom made suits whenever he makes business trips to Thailand. I've seen them myself and the quality is impeccable and he gets them for no more than $200 a pop. He even has Brioni tags thrown on (not something I would do but whatever). In a way, this pays for the ticket many times over in itself.

Has anyone on this forum had experience with this kind of stuff? Anyone visit India, Thailand, Vietnam or some equivalent for business or vacation and had suits made?

I got a suit from India a couple of years ago from what I was told was a fairly reputable boutique. I'd be wary of the material they use. Because of the climate in India, they tend to have polyester shit, which just won't do. Now this was back when I was in school and didn't really give a shit. When I was there a couple of months ago, could not find a wool suit for the life of me! And I tried all the expensive off the rack+tailoring stuff.

Having said that, there is this one place I heard about in Chennai that was complete bespoke suiting where they take like 5 weeks to get your order done, and I remember thinking it wasn't too expensive. I'll check back in if I get a website or something.

Suits from Shanghai. I got one for ~$150, best suit I ever wore. Some friends got theirs as well, and are equally satisfied. Shirts, pants, even jeans and polos from a good tailor will look great and not cost much.

in it 2 win it

My word of advice, make sure you know exactly what you want and be ready to tell them how you want every aspect of the suit done. The tailoring might be good but the style of suit worn in that side of the world is different from this side. So if you're the type of person who walks into a suits place (say Brooks Brothers) and asks for the salesperson's advice, then I'd say you shouldn't have your suits made in India, Thailand, etc. You're gonna end up coming back with a double breasted jacket and flared pants...

ofcourse! i had visited bangkok several times for my professional visits and during that got two of my best suits stitiched from Crown tailors, they are located on Sukhumvit Soi 8. they employs such a fine fabric that it is worth-wearing!! the prices are reasonable, the quality of their outcome is very good. do try them out!
