Wardrobe for 1st Years?

Hello Fellow Apes,

Currently an incoming 1st year at Jefferies, was looking for some advice on my wardrobe. How many suits and where from, what type of bag (duffel or backpack) to carry laptop, good places for ties, and are brown shoes truly a no go? And anything else from a dressing standpoint.

TIA

You only need one suit - two max. First one should be navy and if you want a second, charcoal. You'll almost never wear it for work so don't overspend unless you want a nice one for weddings, etc. Same with ties - you'll never wear them so as long as you have a simple 2-3 you’re fine. More importantly, make sure you're well stocked on button downs/slacks. I like Charles tyrwhitt shirts and bonobos weekday warrior pants but just get whatever is comfortable for you cus you'll be spending 16 hours a day in it. 7-8 shirts and 5 pairs of pants so you can stay on top of dry cleaning, and keep the shirts simple - white and blue with minimal patterns.

From my experience, no one really cares about a backpack/briefcase as long as it looks professional. Again, just make sure it's comfortable to carry to the office every day.

And the age-old brown shows debate. Personally, I like how they look with blue pants but I know some people don't. If people in your office are wearing them, go for it. Take a look at Allen Edmonds chili bc it's a nice shade IMO. Whatever you do, always always always make sure your belt matches your shoes.

Lmk if you have any questions - probably more thorough than you were looking for but I remember being in the same position when I first started. Hope this helps
