Weekender Bag/ Duffle
Looking for some recommendations around quality, leather weekender duffel bags. I travel a lot and am looking for something that is functional but looks good as well. I was going to go with a LV bag, but am having a hard time justifying 1900 to myself.
You should get the Jean Paul Gaultier overnight bag
bump
Fred perry or everlane
I would say go for it. Just doing a quick search for anything decent (leather wise) yield little results that I would say functional and looks good. Prada also has one for men, but around the same price.
Good luck on your search!
Go to Florence and buy something from a local factory...will be nicer and makes for a better story
For the prices he's quoting, it would be cheaper to do that too!
When I was in Florence I got a leather messenger bag - looks great and super high quality for a price definitely unattainable in the U.S.
I picked up a Allen Edmonds leather duffle a while back, and it’s been my go to for shorter trips. Price point was ~$500-600 at the time, but I believe they’re a bit higher now.
I second the Allen Edmonds bag. I bought one about 5 years ago and I love it. However, it should be clear that they don't actually make it. I can't remember who white labels it for them - its a smaller leather works shop - but they are still a very, very high quality bag. I have one of the black pebble grain leather models and its always been a great travel companion for me.
get the LV bag; might as well ball out for things that you won't replace for at least a decade assuming you don't treat your stuff like shit and make six figures
Coach has a gorgeous selection this year, the leather grain quality is out of this world and you'll be lower than LV at equivalent quality. It's a decade plus bag if you take care of it correctly.
But who wants to carry a coach bag
North Face Base Camp duffel bag. Have one in each size (S, M, L, XL).
Have taken them all over the world, from top of Jeeps through Bolivian salt flats to the back of mules on Everest Base Camp trek, to the backs of Tanzanian porters up Kilimanjaro.
I never wash mine. The mud/dirt is a badge of honor, brings memories of good times.
They last a lifetime.
For what it's worth, all of the suggestions are for pansies. Coach bags, seriously?
Leave that for the girlfriend/wives.
I am leaning toward agreeing with this. I like nice luggage and travel bags, but a $1,900 LV? I guess if it makes you happy then go for it.
Or you can spend $500 max and invest the rest.
I have a black hole duffel - love that thing. might get a bigger one (I have 60L) for longer term travel.
Personally, that has displaced my canvas/leather bag that I used to use (a Ralph Lauren that I loved). As far as leather bags, Filson and Gurka have some great quality stuff - I'd recommend searching around to get something that is super high quality, well made and somewhat distinctive.
Black Hole Duffel bags are legit. I got the Patagonia comparable and it's great for all trips
filson makes solid stuff
Despite the common distaste to its name... Douche Bags has some really nice bags and the pricing is great. Though you may find it cheap..
Tecovas Weekender
I've got a Filson and love it. https://www.filson.com/luggage-bags/duffel-bags.html

Jay Butler makes nice stuff that is not insanely un-affordable: https://jaybutler.com/collections/mens-leather-duffel-bag-belts-wallets
I know the LV is excessive but that black damier print duffel is so beautiful. That being said I got a Ted Baker one which was ~400 and looks spectacular
Ted Baker Waine is a good purchase. It really comes down to how long do you plan on keeping this bag, and what is the intended purpose. Spending $500 on a weekender/duffle for short getaways made plenty of sense to me, and since I take care of my things, I know this bag will last 8-10 years.
Exactly. The longevity is super important and doesn't hurt when it's a sick looking piece of luggage.

I really liked the Carhartt Legacy gear bag I got a couple years ago, 23” I think. Took it to Japan and Hong Kong with me and it was perfect if you pack fairly light. Very affordable and durable, think I got it for around $50. The only thing that really sucks is no outside pockets, but I think the largest size might have them. More importantly, the 23” still counts as a carryon.
